What is Hire Purchase? 

Hire Purchase, often called HP, is a straightforward way to finance a car. You usually pay an initial deposit, followed by fixed monthly payments over an agreed term.

Once all payments have been made, including any option-to-purchase fee, the vehicle becomes yours. HP can be a good option if you want simple monthly payments and would like to own the car at the end of the agreement.

• No annual mileage limit in most HP agreements

What is Personal Contract Purchase?

Personal Contract Purchase, often called PCP, is a flexible finance option that may offer lower monthly payments than Hire Purchase because part of the vehicle’s value is deferred until the end of the agreement.

At the end of a PCP agreement, you normally have three options: pay the final optional payment and keep the car, part exchange the car, or return the car subject to mileage and condition terms.

• Annual mileage is agreed at the start
• Useful if you like changing cars regularly
